The Best House Rental in San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

We booked this house for its views and creative energy, and it blew our expectations away

The Artist's Loft is the second home on a large private property called Casa Rosada. It’s a big, beautiful and modern house designed and built by Czech/American glass artist, Michael Pavlik, and his wife, Dita, and together they've transformed this and many other properties into charming homes. They've even gone so far as to design and create everything themselves from the art on the walls to the furniture and landscaped garden.

We lived in this house for a few weeks and for us there was a lot to love. For starters, all of the indoor and outdoor places to relax, the big handmade Mexican hammock, and of course, the breathtaking view of the lake and volcanoes. We also liked having access to the wooden deck and sun terrace from each room and having a fully stocked kitchen with tools and such when we arrived. For us, this house had an unparalleled combination of spectacular views, luxury finish, and total privacy. Though, every now and then the owner’s dogs would walk over to check in on us and make sure everything was alright. Michael and Dita were around but only if you needed them.

To get to the house, walk 20 minutes from San Marcos, the next village over, or get dropped off on the property's private dock. Public boats (lanchas) run about every 20 minutes from each of the villages surrounding the lake. Check out our Lake Atitlan Guide for more information on this and everything else you need to know about traveling to this remote destination.
